Common questions
- Why does my pay stub show different deductions?
- Employers deduct tax pay period by pay period using your TD1 forms, and CPP and EI stop once you reach the yearly maximum. This calculator estimates the total for the year and spreads it evenly.
- Do RRSP contributions reduce CPP and EI?
- No. RRSP contributions lower your taxable income, so they reduce federal and provincial income tax, but CPP or QPP contributions and EI premiums are still based on your full pay.
- Which credits are included?
- The basic personal amount, the credits for CPP or QPP contributions and EI premiums, and the Canada employment amount. Credits that depend on your family or circumstances are not included.
